Herongate is located where Heron Rd emerges from Walkley Rd in Ottawa’s southeast. It is the most diverse neighbourhood in Ottawa. It is also one of the poorest. We are split by city wards right through the middle of our neighbourhood which makes collective organizing in our area very difficult.
The north side of Herongate is owned almost entirely by one company, Timbercreek. Timbercreek’s Herongate has the highest level of housing need in Ottawa. This slumlord is now in the process of evicting all the low-income families and demolishing some of the last affordable townhouses in the city.
